Our History

John Quincy Adams

Adams Elementary School is named for John Quincy Adams, the sixth President of the United States and the son of John Adams, the second President of the United States. Before being elected President, John Q. Adams served as Secretary of State from 1817-1825 in the James Monroe administration. Adams was instrumental in improving relations with Great Britain and was a strong supporter of the Monroe Doctrine, which limited European involvement in the affairs of the Western Hemisphere.

Adams Elementary was built in 1924. It is a Title I school and offers the English Language Learners program. The school participates in the Blessings in a Backpack program, which provides students food to take home over the weekend. Adams provides structured recess time to give students in second through fifth grades the opportunity to participate in flag football, cheerleading, basketball, field hockey, dance and other club sports. Monthly family activities encourage continued learning outside the regular school day.

Students attending Adams feed into Blackhawk Middle School and Snider High School. The school is located in the Board of School Trustees District 4.
